With the development of the internet, the world is rapidly going towards digitalization. Search engine optimization (SEO) has become an important digital skill in the present day. Our website Digital Skills PK is continuing to share articles about basic knowledge of digital skills. Beginners can benefit from our articles. In this article, we will talk about the Google search engine results page(SERPs).

We all know what the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP) looks like. We visit this page whenever we search for something. Search results may change depending on the search query. We will explain all the elements of the Google search engine results page (SERP) in this article. I hope you will like it.

What is a search engine result page?

The pages that search engines provide in response to a user’s query are known as search engine results pages (SERPs). The listing of outcomes that the search engine returns in answer to a keyword query makes up most of the SERP.

SERPs include images, paid Google Ads results, organic search results, Snippets, Knowledge panels, and videos.

The SERP layout varies depending on the search engine, but as Google leads the largest market share (almost 80%), we’ll concentrate on its features and algorithms.

Depending on the type of search query input, different SERP features will appear following a search. The three categories of search queries that are used are transactional, informative, and navigational.

Page features largely depend on search query keywords، search intent, user location, history of search, and many other elements. Even Google search page results can vary in the same keyword search at different times.

For example, if you want to buy some product like sports shoes for men, Google will show you mostly shoe shops, shoe pictures, and shop locations near you.

This search page mostly starts with sponsored ads, images, paid results, and organic website results.

However, if you are searching for the planet Mars, an informational search on Google will show a completely different layout. These results do not show any sponsored, ads, or paid results. You will see a new feature knowledge panel on the right side page which would lot of information about the planet Mars.

Google has a default page where different results appear according to your search query. After assessing your inquiry keywords, Google decides which results are best for you.

Although SERPs appear according to your keywords and search intent, Google gives you an option to filter results. Google default page shows options on the top of the page like all, news, images, videos, shopping, and some other features. You can apply the filter and Google rearrange the result according to your selective filter. We take again an example of the planet Mars. If you select the image option, Google will show only images of the planet. You can also choose other options and see the result accordingly.

Paid and organic results.

When we type or say something for search by Google, results show paid and organic both types. It can be a little hard to notice the difference between both types.

A small green box with the word “Ad” appears above the listing of paid search results; this shows that a business has paid to have its page appear at the top of the list. How many ads will show, depends on Google. Sometimes one or two results are shown, but it is not always. Google can show more paid results as well. Who wants to pay for it and how many people use that search keyword will determine this.

The other result type is organic results. They showed these results with no payment.

Google ranks organic results based on several factors. The results that best match the user’s search query are presented at the top. The goal of search engine optimization is to rank at the top of organic results. Search engine optimization is only one process of better ranking, many other factors also influence it.

Snippets

To swiftly respond to a searcher’s question, featured snippets are brief text excerpts that show up at the top of Google’s search results. A featured snippet’s content is automatically retrieved from websites that are included in Google’s index. Definitions, tables, steps, and lists are typical examples of Featured Snippets.

Google SERPs comprises three elements:

  • Title
  • Meta description
  • URL

Google displays the page’s title in blue, the URL in green, and an explanation of the content of the page. Rich snippets can be found on the SERP as well. Besides the description and URL, a rich snippet displays additional information.

Other important elements on the SERPs

Besides snippets, ads, images, shopping, and news, Google shows some other important features.

Knowledge panel

Google keeps changing its results pages to show the best results to its users. An example of this is the inclusion of a Knowledge Panel element in Google’s search results pages. It displays rich information in response to an informational search query. It shows data on various topics, including institutions, organizations, nations, people, animals, plants, places, etc. The knowledge panel appears on the right side of the search results on the desktop screen. It shows the complete information about your search in an overview of what you are looking for. Google Knowledge Graph powers Knowledge Panel.

“People also ask,” box

This box appears somewhere between organic results. It is the most useful element of Google SERPs. Users’ queries relating to the query are listed in this box on the results page.

Google suggests the questions could give users additional research ideas, stating (behind the three dots next to “People also ask”), “it related these questions to your search words and may be helpful as a next step.”

You’ll come across these similar queries in the organic search results if you search for blogging. You can get a straight response to the particular query by selecting one suggestion.

Featured snippets or answer boxes

A highlighted search box that responds to the query you enter in the Google search bar is known as a featured snippet, also known as an answer box. This highlighted search result box appears above the standard organic search results. Featured snippets frequently take the form of a paragraph or a list of bullets and an accompanying picture.

Related Searches

When you use Trends to search for a term, it displayed searches that are like your term in the related search sections at the bottom of the page. By choosing the tab for your phrase, you can view related top searches, whether you’re comparing other search words, places, or periods.

Conclusion

The search results themselves (also known as snippets), a knowledge graph, a featured snippet, an answer box, photos, and shopping results, and we can see more in Google’s SERPs. Some of these components may appear, depending on the inquiry and the information Google discovers. You can add information to your page to enable Google to display a “rich” snippet that includes extra details about your product or recipe, for example.

You can pay Google to display the snippet of your page as an advertisement at the top of the search results page. Alternately, you may make your pages user- and search engine-friendly so they will rank highly naturally. That is SEO, and we write about it.
